Synapse is the region where the dendrites and nerve terminals of 2 different neurons come into contact with each other. Messages are passed through one neuron to other neuron in this region.

Synapse is the space between two nerve cells or between a gland or a muscle cell (effector)

It is also known as neuronal junction.

It enables a neuron to transmit an electrical or chemical signal to another neuron or to an effector.
