what is synchronous speed
Answers
Synchronous speed is the speed at which the magnetic field rotates. Depending on motor design, the actual mechanical speed may be equivalent (synchronous motor) or slightly smaller (asynchronous motor). The synchronous speed is a function of: The electrical frequency used, typically 60 Hz or 50 Hz.
Synchronous speed is nothing but the speed of rotation of magnetic field produced by the stator of induction motor.
This formula is used to calculate speed of Rotating magnetic field(RMF) or synchronous speed(Ns)of induction motorz ‘f’ represents the supply frequrncy & ‘P’ represents the number of poles of the induction motor.
Synchronous means constent. We call it synchronous because this speed never changes for the Induction motor once it is designed because supply frequrncy is always constent i.e. 50hz in india and 60hz in usa. And some western countries. Once the induction motor is designed we may never change its no of poles so the synchronous speed of motor never changes. Dont get confuse with actual rotational speed of induction motor which is always less than this synchronous speed.
