A tangent line to a circle is a line that touches the circle at exactly one point, never entering the circle's interior.

In the given figure, the line l and the circle have exactly one point P in common. In this case, the line l is called a tangent to the circle at the point P. The point P will be known as point of contact .
Simply, tangent is a exterior line which touches the circumference or perimeter of the circle from only point.
Note : if we will join the radius and the point of contact, the formed line will be perpendicular to that tangent.
