There are 4 valence electrons in the valence shell.
These electrons cannot be lost , neither 4 electrons can be gained to attain stability.
Hence, Carbon forms covalent compounds by sharing of electrons.
Tetra valency is the property of carbon to share , each of its 4 electrons , with 4 different atoms.
