Benzoyl chloride convert into benzaldehyde

Here, Pd is provides surface for reaction, in small pores of Pd absorb H2, but in the presence of Baso4, Baso4 fill in pores of Pd, so now, H2 can not fill on those poisoned pores. Now some of the Place is left to fill H2. When benzoyl chloride passed through Pd. partially hydrogenation in it.

In the presence of Pd/Baso4 (lindlar’s catalyst), benzoyl chloride convert into benzaldehyde is called Rosenmund Reduction.
