N,N-dimethyl-p-nitrosoaniline will be the product.

Explanation:

This occurs as an electrophilic substitution at thepara position of N,N-dimethylaniline.

The electrophile, Nitrosonium ion NO+ is formed in the reaction mixture as follows

NaNO2+HCl→NaCl+HNO2

HO-N=O + H+→H2+O-N=O

H2+O-N=O→H2O++N=O

N,N-dimethylaniline++N=O→N,N-dimethyl-p-nitrosoaniline+H+

Here, the dimethylamino group activates the benzene ring at the ortho and para positions.

But the steric factor of this bulky group disfavors the ortho attack of the electrophile, nitrosonium ion NO+

So, the attack at the para position occurs easily.

Dear friend,

REACTION :-
NaNO2 (s) + HCl (dil.) ==> NaCl (s) + HNO2 (g) ↑

EXPLANATION :-
When white coloured NaNO2 is added to dilute Hydrochloric acid it forms two new substances --- White coloured salt of NaCl along with evolution of Nitrous acidic gas.

Hope it helps !!!
