High in the atmosphere, ozone shields Earth from ultraviolet rays that cause skin cancer, crop damage and other problems. Use of man-made chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which release chlorine and bromine, began eating away at the ozone...

a). Pbs + 4O_{3}PbSO_{4} + 4O_{2}

(Lead sulphide turns to lead sulphate)

b). NO + O_{3}NO_{2} + O_{2}

(Ozone and Nitric oxide on reacting with ozone produce nitrogen oxide and oxygen)

Explanation:

  • Ozone i.e. O3 is a gas consisting of three atoms of oxygen, which is found in very small quantities of around 0.02% in the atmosphere.
  • On reacting with ozone, Pbs(lead sulphide) gets oxidised and it turns into lead sulphate. Thus, black lead sulphide(black) turns white(lead sulphate) due to oxidation in this reaction after the release of oxygen.
  • When a sample containing nitric oxide is mixed with ozone. Nitric oxide reacts with the ozone and leads to the release of oxygen and nitrogen dioxide as mentioned above in the reaction.
