C O N C E P T :

This question can be solved by knowing the concept of additive inverse. Additive inverse is a number which is added to a particular number to obtain zero.

S O L U T I O N :

We know that,

: \implies if a is any rational number then,

: \implies a + ( - a ) = 0

: \impliesa is called additive inverse of a an vice versa.

Here,

: \implies ( i ) Additive inverse of 2 / 8 is ( - 3/8 ) 2 / 8 + ( - 2 / 8 ) = 0

Therefore, the additive inverse of 2 / 8 is ( -2 / 8 )

T I P S :

∴ Whenever we face such types of questions the key concept is that if a is any rational number then,

a + ( − a ) = 0 and ( − a ) is called additive inverse of a an vice versa. In this question we did the same.
