2 • It holds panchayat elections regularly at the lapse of every 5 years.

3 • It provides reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

4 • It appoints State Election Commission to conduct panchayat and municipal elections.

5 • The state govts. are required to share some powers and revenue with local govt. bodies. The nature of sharing varies from state to state.
