Answer:

(1) amplitude =The amplitude of a periodic variable is a measure of its change in a single period. There are various definitions of amplitude, which are all functions of the magnitude of the differences between the variable's extreme values. In older texts, the phase of a period function is sometimes called the amplitude.

(2) time period = time period is the time taken by a complete cycle of the wave to pass a point, Frequency is the number of complete cycle of waves passing a point in unit time

(3) wavelength =Definition: Wavelength can be defined as the distance between two successive crests or troughs of a wave. It is measured in the direction of the wave.

Description: Wavelength is the distance from one crest to another, or from one trough to another, of a wave (which may be an electromagnetic wave, a sound wave, or any other wave). Crest is the highest point of the wave whereas the trough is the lowest. Since wavelength is distance/length, it is measured in units of lengths such as metres, centimetres, milimetres, nanometres, etc.

The following equation is known as the wavelength formula or the wavelength equation:

? = V/f (where ' V' is the speed of the wave and 'f' is the frequency of the wave)

Thus, Wavelength of the wave = Speed of the wave/ Frequency

Example: If the speed of a wave is 600m per second and the frequency of the waves is 30 waves per sec, then the wavelength will be equal to:

? = 600/30

? = 20 m

Wavelength of light varies with colours, i.e., it is different for every colour. Red colour has the longest wavelength while violet has the least. The wavelength of UV radiation is shorter than violet light. Similarly, the wavelength of infra red radiation is longer than the wavelength of red light.

Wavelength is inversely proportional to frequency. This means the longer the wavelength, lower the frequency. In the same manner, shorter the wavelength, higher will be the frequency.

(4) frequency =Frequency is the number of occurrences of a repeating event per unit of time. It is also referred to as temporal frequency, which emphasizes the contrast to spatial frequency and angular frequency. Frequency is measured in units of hertz which is equal to one occurrence of a repeating event per second

(5) hertz =The hertz is the derived unit of frequency in the International System of Units and is defined as one cycle per second. It is named after Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, the first person to provide conclusive proof of the existence of electromagnetic waves.
