Given

  • Initial Velocity = 0 km/s
  • Final Velocity = 72 km/h
  • Time = 10 min

To Find

  • Acceleration of the train
  • Distance covered during this time

Solution

v = u + at [First Equation of Motion]

v²-u² = 2as [Third Equation of Motion]

First convert the time to hours, then use the first equation of motion to find the acceleration and the third equation of motion to find the distance covered

Converting Units :

→ Time = 10 min

→ 10/60

Time = 0.17 hour

Acceleration of the train :

→ v = u + at

→ 72 = 0 + a × 0.17

→ 72 = 0 + 0.17a

→ 72/0.17 = a

→ Acceleration = 423.52 km/s²

Distance Covered :

→ v²-u² = 2as

→ 72² - 0² = 2 × 423.52 × s

→ 5184 = 865.04s

→ 5184/865.04 = s

→ Distance Covered = 5.99 km
