Answer:

Measures needed to be taken by the school for Diabetic kids:

  1. Depending on the child’s age, school staff (like the school nurse or an aide) should help the child stay on track with their routine care. Teachers and coaches may assist with some parts of routine care too.
  2. All adults who supervise the child should know how to use the child’s diabetes to-go kit. Teachers should be able to identify and treat hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.
  3. Teachers should be taught the basics and what to do in an emergency.
  4. At school, most children with diabetes will need to be checked on the following:

                 i) Proper monitoring of their blood sugar levels

ii) Taking insulin or other diabetes medicines

iii) Keeping a watch on and treating blood sugar highs and lows

iv) Making them eat snacks and lunch at a certain time (with plenty of time to finish)

                 v) Easy access to water and time for bathroom breaks should be given.

vi)  Encourage them to participate in physical activity.

    5. If a school has a child with diabetes, there should be at least two trained members of staff. The school must also be prepared for alternatives and staff turnover so there should always be a trained member of staff available.

Nowadays, most schools are aware of these measures and are trying their best to provide proper medical emergency and services at school for children affected by diabetes.
