The power scenario in Kerala exhibits certain distinct features, as residential consumption is witnessing a rapid and consistent growth. As the domestic consumers enjoy a subsidised tariff, consumers may not take the required care in avoiding wastage of electricity or to conserve it. The industrial and agricultural sectors which are indicators of economic growth showed a decline in electricity consumption. In the backdrop of this, the present study examines the residential electricity consumption pattern of consumers of KSEB. The study established that household income is a major determinant of electricity demand. It is also established that the domestic consumers are also willing to reduce their electricity consumption further, which is a strong indication that there exists a scope for electricity conservation.
