The Tamil natives of Sri Lanka are known as the Sri Lankan Tamils. The population of the   Sri Lankan Tamils forms 13% of the total population of Sri Lanka. They largely lived in the North and Eastern part of Sri Lanka. Most of these Tamils were Hindus. Since the independence of Sri Lana in the year 1948, there began a civil war between the majorities of natives known as Sinhalese and minority Tamil.
