The periodic table is an arrangement of the chemical elements, organized on the basis of their atomic numbers, electron configurations and recurring chemical properties.

We are presently aware of only 118 elements.

Modern Periodic law states that the properties of the elements are periodic functions of their atomic numbers.

This means that atomic number forms the base of modern periodic law.
