Answer:
Manures are classified on the basis kind of biological material available for decomposition. (1) Vermicompost It is a process when compost is prepared by using earthworms to hasten the process of decomposition of plants and animal refuse. In this earthworms helps to breakdown the wastes. This activity along with the excreta of the worms makes the compost rich in nutrients. (1) Green manure This practice involves growing or ploughing and mixing of green crops with soil to improve physical structure and soil fertility. Green manure supplies nitrogen, phosphorus to the soil.
Manure is of two types :
• Vermi Compost/Compost: It is the manure which is made by collecting domestic wastes, farm wastes and kitchen wastes such as animal excreta, dead plants, etc in a pit to decompose. This process is called composting and it is rich in organic matter.
When we use worms like earthworms to make the process faster, composting is called Vermi composting.
• Green Manure : Before the sowing of the crop, plants like sun hemp are grown and then harvested. Now, the crops are sown and the harvested crop previously grown are ploughed into the soil of the crop so that they can act as mulch.
