Ectopia cordis is a genetic defect in which baby's chest wall doesn’t form correctly during a baby's development in utero.

Explanation:

  • It is occur rarely, among the 126,000 births, this ectopia cordis will occur one child.
  • Ecitopia cordis occur partially or completely.
  • In partial ectopia cordis, just under the skin the heart is located outside the chest wall.
  • Through the skin, beating heart can be seen.
  • Layer of skin not cover the heart, the heart is situated totally outside the chest, it is complete ectopic cordia.
  • In this condition chest (thorax), abdomen or both are deformed.
  • During the 10th or 11th week of pregnancy, this deformity can be seen on ultrasound.
  • Difficulty breathing , poor blood circulation, low blood pressure and pH and electrolyte imbalance are the result of ectopia cordia.
