I think it eliminated any chance of France threatening Austria and kicking her out of the war. Was also an unexpected defeat of the French army which was unexpected at the time. Basically it stopped France from finding a quick way to win the war, maybe?
Btw the Duke of Marlborough was also an ancestor of Winston Churchill.
