Cell theory was proposed by Schleiden and Schwann. The theory states the following:
1) All living organisms are made up of cells
2) All cells are formed from the pre-existing cells.

Two Germans M.J. Schleiden (Botanist in 1838) and Theodor Schwann (Zoologist in 1839) collectively formulated the cell theory.

And in 1855 a German physiologist, Rudolf Virchow proposed this.

He gave the phrase : "Omnis-cellula-e-cellula".

This phrase means- All cells arise from pre existing cells .

Cell theory features :

• Cell is the basic unit of structure of plants and animals both.

• It is the basic unit of function as well as the metabolic reactions take place inside the cell.
