To see distant objects focal length of our eye increases which leading to shortning of eye lens.

This is called Power of Accomodation, which means our eye is capable of changing its focal length by adjusting by ciliary muscle.

Answer:

"This ability of the eye to adjust the vision is called accommodation. Whenever there is a change in the curvature of the eye lens, the focal lens also changes.

When the ciliary muscles relax the lens become thin and the focal length increase thereby enabling to see distant objects.

When you are focusing on the close objects, then the ciliary muscles contract ad the curvature of the eye lens become thick; thus focal length decreases allowing you to see the objects. "
