 The tetragonal form is usually red or orange color and the orthorhombic is usually yellow or orange.

when red lead has been heated in a hard glass tube for the preparation of oxygen, the residue ofmonoxide is lemon-yellow in colour; and when lead hydroxide is boiled with a 10 per cent, sodium hydroxide solution, a light yellow modification of the oxide is produced
