The correct formula of Sodium hexametaphosphate is Na₆P₆O₁₈. It is a mixture of polymeric metaphosphates like hexamer and hence the name of the compound.

The correct term is sodium polymetaphosphate. It is also used as a food additive to enhance the stability and quality of foods ( called sequestrant).

It also plays the role of deflocculant required for producing clay-based ceramic materials.
