The problem with Indian families is that they put undue pressure on children to pursue careers that they think fit or sometimes parents want their children to become something they could not themselves achieve. The all-time craze has been Engineering and Medicine. Now, MBA is hogging the limelight.
In order to choose a career, it must first be seen what interests the child and in what discipline he or she has an aptitude.Thereafter, the parents should have an open discussion with the child; if necessary, the class teacher or a career consultant could be consulted. Only after all this is done, should the child be provided with special coaching for specific entrance tests for that particular discipline. Then, some colleges or joint entrance tests should be selected and applications submitted accordingly.
