What is the criterion used for classifying organisms into Monera and protista

The criterion for classification of organisms as belonging to kingdom monera or protista is the type of cell they are made up of .

Organisms in kingdom monera are prokaryotic i.e. they do not have a well defined nucleus and a nuclear membrane.

Organisms in kingdom protista are eukaryotic i.e they have well defined nucleus with a nuclear membrane.
