(a) The circuit for the battery and resistance is shown in figure.

(b) Effective resistance of the series combinations is given as:

R=20+20=40ohms

(c) Current flowing through the circuit

I=RV

=5/40=0.125amps

(d) p.d. across each resistance

V=I×R=0.125×20=2.5V

Given,

voltage V = 5V

resistance R = 5 ohm

Current I = to find

we know that,

V = IR \: \\  \implies \:  I =  \frac{V}{R}  \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  =  \frac{5}{5}   \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: = 1 \: A
