Given:

P(z)= 5z^{3} -2z^{4} - 9z^{2} +z

To Find:

Degree of the polynomial P(z)

Solution:

Degree of a polynomial is defined as the highest power raised of the  polynomial's monomials with non zero coefficients.

 or

It is the highest exponent power of the independent variable of a polynomial  ;

Example - P(x)=x^{8} +7x^{2} - 4x^{5}

the highest power of x is 8

hence degree of polynomial P(x) is 8;

Given P(z)= 5z^{3} -2z^{4} - 9z^{2} +z

highest power of z = 4

Hence degree of the above polynomial is 4.

Degree of polynomial P(z)= 5z^{3} -2z^{4} - 9z^{2} +z is 4.
