It is a number that cannot be written as a ratio of two integers (or cannot be expressed as a fraction). ... Only the square roots of square numbers are rational. Similarly Pi (π) is an irrational number because it cannot be expressed as a fraction of two whole numbersand it has no accurate decimal equivalent
