Open pit mining is also called open cast mining where miners use explosives to get to the minerals and as a result leaving a large hole on the surface of the earth.
Quarries are the same thing.
But underground mines also known as deep cast mining is where miners make tunnel or shafts to go under the ground to mine for minerals. They use hand tools to dig the minerals and also use heavy machinery. with the help of machines they transport the minerals to the surface.
