Answer:

The desert plants are called xerophytes while aquatic plants are called hydrophytes.

Xerophytes:

These plants are adapted for living in extremely dry conditions. They have deep roots, small thin leaves, and waxy thick leathery cuticle to retain moisture. Stomata are present on the lower surface of their leaves and located in depression to reduce the rate of transpiration. Succulent organs are present for storage of water as they live in areas where there is scarcity of water. Examples of xerophytes are pineapple, cactus etc.

Hydrophytes:

These plants are completely aquatic. They have a large number of stomata on their leaves to remove the excess of water . Surface area of leaves is very large to increase the rate of transpiration. Generally stomata are present on upper surface of leaves for facing the atmosphere to promote the loss of water. Examples of hydrophytes are water lily, lotus etc.

Hope it helps you!
