In layman language
An archive is the process of hiding while Encrypting is the process of translating the file in some coded language which is not easily readable.
Technically
If we archive a file the file will transfer from the main platform and will be saved somewhere else in the archive folder. The file will be not visible on the main platform now. It does not mean that now it is invisible or nobody can now read the file. If anybody gets access to an archive folder, the file can be read very easily.
If we encrypt a file then it can no longer be read by anyone until it is decrypted. This is safer then archive if you want to hide a file.
