THE MAJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ANION AND CATION ARE AS FOLLOWS :

i) Anions are negatively charged ions whereas Cations are positively charged ions.

ii) Cations are formed by loss of electrons by an atom whereas Anions are formed by gaining of electron by an atom.

iii) In a cation, number of electrons are less than number of protons whereas in anions, number of electrons are more than the number of protons.

iv) Anions migrate to the anode during electrolysis and are discharged at it whereas Cations migrate to the cathode during electrolysis and are discharged at it.
