Hy,

NC means Non cognizable complaint these are the matter which are not serious or heinous crime in the eyes of Police or law. Like you can lodge NC for your lost mobile or somebody mis-behaved with you.

FIR is First Information Report which is a tool for setting the law in motion. Once the FIR is registered it comes under scrutiny of Senior Police Officer, Courts and Press etc. Then a proper investigation needs to be carried out as per law. Like the police also becomes responsible for their action as they have to write case diaries daily of the work done. Then after collection of evidence and recording of statements of witnesses either the chargesheet is filed or a closure report is filed in the court of law.
