Corrosion is related to the metals while the rancidity is related to the foods. The corrosion consists of the contact of the metals with moisture and oxygen while the rancidity means the reaction of fats in food with the oxygen. Also the rancidity is more rapid process than that of the corrosion.

Answer:

Difference between corrosion and rancidity:

Corrosion:

This is a natural process.

It is a process in which metals are gradually broken down by the reaction of oxygen and water and form an oxide layer on the surface of the metal.

Due to corrosion, the pure metal turns into an undesirable substance.

In the case of iron, this is called rusting.

If a piece of iron is left in moist air, it will slowly turn into a dull, brittle brown substance called rust (Fe_2O_3,xH_2O)

.The formation of rust on the surface of iron is called rusting of iron.

rancidity:

The term "rancidity" refers to a condition in which food has become undesirable.

It is often used to describe the oxygen content of oils.

This term is used to describe oxygen damage to food.

When oxygen molecules interact with oil and food, the normal structure of the food is disturbed, as a result of which the smell and taste change, and it is not recommended for consumption.

For example, an example of rancidity is when a packet of crisps comes into contact with atmospheric air, resulting in a change in taste and smell.
