fewer means- 1) a small number of (or) 2) not many.
eg:- eat fewer cakes.
less means- 1) a smaller amount of.
eg:- there is less blossom on this tree.
DIFFERENCE:-
fewer is used with plural nouns, as in the example, cakes is a plural noun. whereas,
less is used with nouns that can't be counted.
