Answer:

The main difference:

Adhesive force is the force of attraction between two different molecules

For example-attraction between water molecule and air molecule

Cohesive force is the force of attraction between two similar molecules

For example- attraction between water molecules

Differences between force of cohesion and force of adhesion are:

1. The force of cohesion actually occurs between those two molecules or substances which are similar. On the other hand, the force adhesion is present between those two molecules or substances which are not similar.

2. Effects of the force of adhesion includes: meniscus and capillary action. On the other hand, effects of the force of cohesion includes: meniscus, capillary action and also surface tension.

3. The main cause of adhesion force is mechanical and electrostatic forces which are present between two different molecules. Whereas, the main reason of cohesion force is Van Der Waals force or the hydrogen bonding.

4. Example of the cohesion force includes the hydrogen bonding of molecules of water that is formed with the nearby molecules. And example of adhesion force includes the water drops present on the surface of leaves.
