Differences :-
1) Half wave rectifier uses one diode, and full wave rectifier users more than 2 diodes
2) Half wave rectifier rectifies the half cycle, while full wave rectifier does rectification of full cycle.
3) Efficiency of half wave rectifier is less than Full wave rectifier
4) Ripple factor of Half wave rectifier is 1.2. Ripple of Full rectifier is 0.48.
5) Peak inverse voltage of Full wave rectifier 2Vm, Peak Inverse of Half wave rectifier 1 Vm.

Half Wave Rectifier
• It can be constructed with a single Diode .
• A half Wave Rectifier rectifies only one half cycle of the AC input .
During the positive half cycle , the diode is forward biased and current flows through the diode, During the negative half cycle the diode is reverse biased and current doesn't flows through it. Thus current flows through the diode During positive half cycle only and in one direction.
• So half Wave Rectifier gives discontinuous and pulsative DC output and the number of DC pulses per second is equal to the frequency of the applied AC.
• Efficiency of half Wave Rectifier is 40.6%

Full wave rectifier.
•Full wave rectifier can be constructed using 2 or more diodes ( when more than two diodes are used them it's called bridge rectifier and gives the same output as Full wave rectifier)
•A Full Wave Rectifier rectifies both cycles of the AC input .
During the positive half cycle , One diode is forward biased and other is reverse biased, and current flows through the forward biased diode and will not flow through the reverse biased diode . During the negative half cycle same phenomenon is observed.
Hence current will flow during both half cycles and will be in same direction.
• Thus full wave rectifier, gives continuous and pulsating output (The pulsating current can be made smoother using filter circuits)
The DC pulses per second of the output is equal to twice the frequency of AC input.
• Efficiency of full wave rectifier
is 81.2%.
