HI FRIEND

FUNGI : -

> Fungi are neither plants nor animals, but are in a separate Kingdom of their own.

> The fungus provides protection to the photosynthetic species while gaining organic nutrients from the alga or bacterium.

LICHENS : -

> Lichens are special organisms where an alga grows together with a fungus and form a new structure.

> A lichen is a symbiotic association between a fungus and an alga or cyanobacterium.

Heya user !!!

Here's the answer you are looking for

FUNGI :

♦ It is a multicellular organism with loosely packed cells and chitious cell wall.

♦ They form a separate kingdom "KINGDOM FUNGI" in the 5 kingdom system by R.H. Whittaker.

♦ Most the the fungi lack chlorophyll as a result of which they cannot make their own food. And hence most of the fungi are saprophytic (that is derive nutrients from dead and decaying organisms) or symbiotic.

♦ Fungi form symbiotic relationship with algae (known as lichen) or higher plants (known as micorhizza)

LICHEN:

♦ It is the symbiotic relationship between fungi and algae.

♦ The fungal partner is known as mycobiont and the algal partner is known as phycobiont.

♦ The fungal partner derives minerals and water to the algal partner and the algal partner, in return make food for it self and the fungal partner as it contains photosynthetic pigments.

♦ The fungi and algae are so closely packed to form lichen that they cannot be distinguished as two different organisms through naked eye.
