Mitosis happens in somatic cells whereas meiosis happens in reproductive cells.
Mitosis known as equational division i.e., daughter cells have same no. of chromosomes as that of the parent cell whereas in meiosis daughter cell has have the no. of chromosomes as that of the parent cell

Answer:
Meiosis -
- It occurs in the reproductive cells and during germination of zygote or zygospores.
- The parent cells are diploid.
- This cell division is a double division which gives rise to four cells.
- Interphase proceeds only to meiosis 1.
- It is a longer process and occurs only once.
- The number of chromosomes is reduced to one half after this process.
- The multiplication of the cells is not involved.
- It does not take part in healing and repair but takes part in the formation of gametes and it introduces variations.
Mitosis -
- It occurs in somatic cells.
- The parents cells can be haploid or diploid.
- This cell division is a single division process.
- The interface occurs before each division.
- It takes less time to complete and can occur multiple times.
- The number of chromosomes remains the same.
- This cell division helps in multiplication of cells.
- It does not introduce variations and takes part in healing and repair.
