what is the difference between nitrification and denitrification and the role of bacteria in the process

Nitrifying bacteria are responsible for conversion of ammonia to nitrite 1st & then nitrate during ‘d’ process of N2 fixation………Whereas denitrifying bacteria are responsible for convertibg ‘nitrate’ back again to atmocpheric N2. Hope it helps!
