Combustion : In combustion , organic compounds are completely burnt and get oxidised to CO2 and water.
Oxidation : In this, oxygen is gained and hydrogen molecules are lost thereby giving the compound an oxidised form.

Combustion means addition of oxygen to produce carbon dioxide along with water heat and light.
Oxidation means that when acidifed K2C2O7 or alkaline KMNO4 is added to ethanol to give carboxylic acid.
