Primary succession :
-occurs in barren land where no previous vegetation or living matter was present. For eg : on volcanic lava, sand dunes, igneous rocks etc
- it is slow and takes 1000(s) of years.
Secondary succession :
-occurs where vegetation was present previously, but was destroyed due to natural or artificial causes like flood, forest fire, climate change etc.
-it is comparatively more rapid.
50-100 years for grass land, 100-200 for forest
