Ray is the straight line propagation of any object whereas waves are the materials that transmits energy and angular momentum from one place to another.
Gamma rays and Micro waves both are in electromagnetic spectrum. There ray and waves suffix denotes their corresponding characteristics as defined in the above statement.

Gamma rays are termed so because they travel in a particular direction like a ray of light. The term ray is used to show direction.
Waves are oscillators, that is they are oscillation or periodic vibrations of a certain amplitude or frequency. Micro waves are said so because they travel in the form of wave similar to the ripple in water.
