breathing is simply a mechanical process of inhaling and exhaling the air

in other words it is a muscular process

whereas
respiration is a broader term which includes intake of air and its utilisation in the body cells to produce energy

moving of air in and out is known as breathing
the inhaling of oxygen and exhaling of carbon dioxide is known as respiration
