Explanation:
Consequent river :
- It is basically the master river, the first to be originated on a particular landscape. Its course is the direct result of the initial topography i.e it flows with the slope of the land. So, it is the “consequence” of the slope.
- Eg. The rivers like Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri, descending from the Western Ghats and flowing into the Bay of Bengal, are some of the consequent rivers of Peninsular India.
Subsequent river :
- It originates after the origin or establishment of the master stream/river, and is formed after eroding the non-resistant strata or softer rocks along the surface. Simply, Subsequent rivers are the tributaries of the master consequent river.
- Eg. The Chambal, Sind, Ken, Betwa and Son ( join Yamuna and Ganga at almost right angles ), are the subsequent drainage of the Ganga drainage system.
Hope it helps.......
