a simile is a phrase that describes something in comparison to the characteristic of something else usually using the word like or as
example:
a book is like a good meal
her teeth is like pearls
a metaphor directly compares two things which may be quite different because one has a characteristic that is similar to the other . it is usually using the verbs such as is, are ,were ,was
