- The head-group of soap a molecule is a carboxylate anion
- Detergents are artificially based and have a Phosphate or sulphate anion as the head-group. Detergents often use sulphate group molecule.
- Soap forms leather with hard water but detergents cannot form leather
- Soap are soluble in soft water whereas Detergent soluble in soft water as well as hard water.
- Soap is a weak cleansing agent and Detergent is a strong cleansing agent.
- Soap is precipitated and create scum. Detergent cannot precipitated and does not form scum.
