Nadis are village ponds. They are found in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. They are used for storing water from an adjoining natural catchment, especially during the rainy season. So water is not available throughout the year in Nadi, only for a few months following the rains.  Nadi is located in areas where there storage capacity near a catchment with least runoff characteristics.

Tobas is a waterbody which is just a ground depression with a natural catchment area. So Tobas were constructed where there was a hard plot of land consisting of a depression and a natural catchment area. It is important for the land to have low porosity in order to prevent stored water from being wasted.
