What is the difference between 'valence electrons' and 'valency' ?? Can I know how the valency increases from left to right in a periodic table??

Valence electrons are the total number of electrons in the ultimate shell whereas valency is the maximum number of electrons an atom can lose or gain to attain stability.
Valency increases from left to right because valence electron enters into the same shell
