Ordinary well:-An ordinary well is a well that is dug or drilled below the water table and water is pumped to the surface. In an artesian well, water in a confined aquifer rises on its own due to the pressure of the water rather than pumping.

Step well :- Stepwells are wells or ponds in which the water is reached by descending a set of steps to the water level. They may be multi-storied with a bullock turning a water wheel to raise the well water to the first or second floor.
