F1 is the first generation after breeding/mating.

F2 is the second generation after breeding/mating.

In actual terms, 1st and 2nd filial generation. In mendel's experiments, he found that, the F1 generation only showed dominant features/phenotype of every trait. Whereas, F2 generation showed recessive features/phenotype as well. The ratio of phenotyoe in F2 hence is, 3:1. That is, in F2 generation, three combinations show dominant phenotype but the fourth shows recessive phenotype.

But, there are deviations from this law. Such as, the appearance of pink flowers and the lentil showing both dots and spots. The cases of incomplete and codominance.
